Website Search Engine Optimisation Analysis
Website Activity Tracking
This page demonstrates the power of ASP.Net
and Visual Basic.Net to produce attractive Web pages, and information essential
for Search Engine Optimisation.
It is important to have statistics on what is happening with your Website. Without
the facts and figures, you will be optimising in the dark. Keeping track of Web traffic
is crucial in determining who is visiting a Website, and what Keywords they are
using in their Searches.
All the charts below were dynamically constructed using ASP.Net and Visual
Basic.Net. See also extracting

Asynchronous Processing
Asynchronous Processing allows each Web page to be displayed immediately, while
data collection and data storage to an SQL Server database takes place in the background.
Despite the amount of work being done by the server in accessing the database and
creating the charts, the response time is good. The wonders of ASP.Net and
Visual Basic Programming!

The number of pages visited is an important metric. The more pages read, the more
interested the visitors are in the content of the Website. The average time spend
viewing pages is also an indicator of interest in the Website. Note that the seconds
spend viewing each page excludes the last page.
Browser Statistics
Over the past three months, visitors to this Website used these Browsers:
Firefox is very popular. Internet Explorer 8 has made a solid start, and has taken
over from IE7. IE6 still persists, despite all Microsoft's security warnings and
the stopping of Google support. It is essential that Websites work properly for
the top 4 browsers.
Platform Statistics
This chart shows the operating system used by the visitors.
As expected, Windows XP dominates whilst Vista has not taken off. Windows 2000 has
disappeared, whilst Window 7 visitors will soon outnumber Vista.
Search Engine Statistics
This chart shows the Search Engines used by the visitors to this Website.
The vast majority of searches are done with Google, Yahoo! and Bing. A Website should
be optimised for these three Search Engines. Although the rankings for a particular
Keyword phrase may differ, the Search Engine Optimisation techniques are all the
same.
Yahoo! will be in decline, due to the partnership with Microsoft.
Visitor Statistics
This chart shows the number of daily visitors to my two Websites over the last three
weeks. The trend of the visitor activity will indicate the effectiveness of any
Search Engine Optimisation.
A high hit-rate is not necessarily desirable – but at least the Website is
being found. Targeted visitors who browse more than one page are what is needed
for customers.
